Orthodontics is the name for that wonderful branch of dentistry concerned with turning bad bites into good bites. In other words, orthodontists like Dr. Timothy Yu help straighten crooked crowded or protruding teeth, teeth spaced too far apart, or excessive underbites or overbites.

Orthodontists have the knowledge and tools to treat all of these issues. They also have patience, as these issues take time to fix. Here are some examples of various orthodontic appliances that Dr. Timothy Yu might recommend that you or your child wear for a time:

Braces—composed of metal brackets bonded to teeth and attached with a wire. These place pressure on your teeth, gradually shifting them into alignment. We offer clear braces or metal braces.
Invisalign–removable thermoplastic aligners are custom-made to fit your teeth. These are a great alternative to braces
Headgear—a brace extending around the head from one side of the mouth to the other designed to help reposition teeth and restrict the growth of the upper jaw
Elastics—Rubber bands attached to your braces to help align your bite
Palatal Expander—designed to widen the upper jaw so that the bottom and upper teeth will fit together better
Retainer—maintains the placement of your teeth and bite after other orthodontic work is done
Positioner—a removable appliance used after braces are removed designed to finish the job. It helps with minor repositioning.
