Dental-Mirror-CSSIf you have you been delaying necessary dental treatment because you experience dental anxiety, you are not alone. If you are one of those who perspire even thinking about sitting in a dentist chair, rest assured, we understand! At Red Mountain Family Dental, we know dental anxiety and dental phobia affect many people, including some of our patients.

That is why Dr. Scott Josephson and Dr. Timothy Yu are happy to provide sedation dentistry for our patients in Mesa, Arizona, and the neighboring communities who struggle with anxiety during dental procedures.

You may be relieved to choose one of the following three sedation options for your next dental procedure:

Nitrous Oxide:

The dental community began using nitrous oxide in the 1860’s to calm anxious patients. This colorless gas is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through the nose by breathing normally. You will be able to hear and respond to questions and instructions during your procedure. Simply sit back, relax, and breathe comfortably through your nose while we work on your smile.

Oral Sedation:

With oral sedation, we simply prescribe you a pill to take an hour before your upcoming visit, and depending on the dosage, it can range from minimal to moderate sedation. This sedation dentistry will make you drowsy and you will still be awake, although some people become groggy enough from the moderate level and can nod off during the procedure. You will, however, be easily awakened with a gentle shake.

IV Sedation:

With IV sedation, we administer the medication through your veins. This type of sedation works quickly, and allows us to control the level of sedation which makes you stay comfortable and pain-free. While IV sedation allows you to remain conscious, you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep during your treatment. It is also possible that you may not remember the details of your procedure, even though you are awake.

So if you have been delaying treatment due to dental anxiety, we feel confident that you will have your best dental experience yet if you let us help. No matter what the procedure, our Red Mountain Family Dental team in Mesa, Arizona, are committed to your comfort and well-being during your time with us. To schedule your next visit, please call 480-641-4165 today!
